When I first got into poker, I was dismayed by the lack of options for equity-calculators with Mac-compatibility. I recall toying-around w/ a few of the free, in-browser calculators… but they were finicky, prone to error, and were of limited functionality. When I saw PokerCruncher in the App Store, I admit being a bit put-off by the price — but I was wrong. Very wrong. What it lacks in looks… it makes up for in pure functionality; and the fact that you can get this software, for a one-time payment of less than $50, is an absolute STEAL of an offer. The developer has consistently offered updates & improvements FREE of charge! Scroll through the reviews, until you see the customer complaining of the lack of sub-range -building options… and guess what — PokerCruncher now has that application (w/ color-coded groups). By listening to customer feedback, the developer was able to transform this software into a completely different program that allows an adept poker student to create and/or review ANY poker scenario the mind can conjure. If you feel lost or overwhelmed, hit the books; tighten-up your understanding of math/theory; and just start simple (hand-vs-hand, hand-vs-range, range-vs-range, etc.) Frankly, this could well be used as a substitute for a solver-subscription — seeing as it also has range-equity distribution graphs, coded sub-ranges, built-in hand-groups (ie Sklansky-Malmuth), the ability to either positively or negatively filter ranges (by hand-type & equity), etc. You really can use it to replicate any spot you need to study/iterate. There are very few professional-grade equity-calculators (on Mac & PC) — and PokerCruncher is most definitely one of them. It is also my opinion that PokerCruncher has the ability to do do virtually everything that can be done with all the available of its competitors. While Flopzilla may be best for user-interface — it has limited-functionality… and while Flop Falcon handles texture analysis better… it borrows most everything else from PokerCruncher! Think about it for a moment; would you rather have a tool that can do very few things flawlessly, or one which can do EVERYTHING, really well? And I’m not the only one who thinks so. Who am I? I’m just some guy online. But when you discover that PokerCruncher is used by known pros — including Bart Hanson of “Crush Live Poker” (and even Daniel Negreanu!) — you can trust that it isn’t just a great bargain — it’s one of the best in show!
